The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand 
 
Good morning! Here is today’s word of blessings for you. 
 
Revelation 8:1-5 
1When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 
2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. 
3 Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people, on the golden altar in front of the throne. 4 The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake. 
 
 Today’s title is “Prayer Of God’s People Going Up Before God” 
 
 God has given us many promises. Out of all those promises, the most assuring promise is a promise about prayers. It is clear and definitive. Listen to what Jesus has said about prayers. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8) In this word of the Lord, the relationship between the command to pray and the promise to answer are direct and decisive. Other biblical verses about the prayer also maintain such a direct and decisive tone. Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’” James 4:2 says, “You do not have because you do not ask God.” How could they be so sure that the prayers will be answered when in reality nothing seemed sure? I believe today’s passage shows the answer. Here we see the spiritual process of offered prayers that are normally hidden from our eyes. “Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people, on the golden altar in front of the throne. The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand.” Our prayers, however humble they may be, goes up to the golden altar in the throne of God offered together with the heavenly incense at the hand of angels. God who is seated at the throne receives our prayers and acts upon them with His sovereign power and wisdom. That’s awesome and amazing. But that’s a definite spiritual reality known to the faithful believers for a long time. That’s why David wrote in his psalm, “ I call to you, Lord, come quickly to me; hear me when I call to you. May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice (Psalm 141:1-2). That’s why the author of the book of Hebrews said “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)”. God wants us to share the such fervent heart of prayers too. That’s probably why He shows us the hidden spiritual operation of prayers. How sure are you about the promise of God to answer your prayers? How fervently and persistently do you pray?

1When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.
3 Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people, on the golden altar in front of the throne. 4 The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.

This man, Des Ford, from Australia has influenced me indirect or directly for over 40 years. All that I have become in any virtuous way is a direct result of his teaching. I use what I have learned from him to measure all others. He has kept me away from teachings that are rubbish. He sees Jesus in all of scripture and makes an understanding of Him more clear as a result.

Edward Fudge was a true elder brother. Like an elder brother he was much superior in many ways. Yet in his generosity, he treated me as an equal. A truly spiritual brother was he. I desire to be like him.

Mark Lanier a true example of Christian excellence letting Christ define his ethics in work, study and play. Only he could make a term like "bible nerd" desirable. His library, a world class Theological Library is his gift to any and all who will use it responsibly.

And outside of space and time, he sees your prayers. 
 
Do space and time determine your prayers or do your prayers determine space and time? 
 
Jesus said, “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do…” 
And then He said, “Until now (this is after three years of constant discipleship), you have asked nothing in my name.” 
 
What does it mean to ask in His name? 
In Revelation eight, the Lamb opens the seventh and final seal, and “there was silence in Heaven for about a half an hour.” 
Why is everyone silent? 
Perhaps the vision has taken their breath away. 
And perhaps God is still speaking in silence. 
Human words are always a reduction of the Divine Word. 
Seven angels are given seven trumpets and another Angel stands on the altar. 
Given much incense, He mixes it with your prayers, which rise before the throne. 
 
At the opening of the seventh seal everyone sees the Judgment of God, the 7th day of creation, the Sabbath, the Jubilee, the Vengeance, and the Day of Atonement. They see “God is Salvation” and “It is finished”; the Gospel is eternal. 
 
Why are they silent? 
Why do you normally speak? 
 
Is it not to make things right? Is it not to create yourself and your world? 
Is it not to create yourself, save yourself and justify yourself? 
What if you truly saw that you were already justified and “everything was very good?” 
Perhaps you would stop speaking—shabbatt, in Hebrew; Sabbath. 
The Angel on the altar is Jesus. That name means “God is Salvation.” 
The thing that believes that you are salvation, and must, therefore, justify your self, is your ego. 
 
Your ego can only exist in time for it’s constructed of what you think you have done in the past and can do in the future. 
But your ego cannot tolerate the Light that is God’s Grace and the Eternal Now. 
“Now is Salvation,” said Jesus, who is “the Light.” 
Be silent in the Light, without defending yourself with words, then speak. 
Those words rise from an altar in space and time and those words create space and time. 
Those words are God’s Word, spoken through you, His Body.

Since chapter 6 we’ve been waiting for the full number of the redeemed to be sealed, and here we see the multitude who have come out of the ‘great tribulation.’ To what is this referring? A time yet to come? A season of persecution in the first century? Or perhaps a description of what God’s people go through continuously? 
 
The lamb breaks the final seal on this mysterious scroll and we’re almost ready to hear what’s inside. 
 
I’ll try and provide biblical references I couldn’t cover in the 7-minute format here. If you want to ponder these, I’d love to hear your insights and questions in the comments!
