Galatians 1:11-12, Part Three: The Damascus Road Theophany and the Divine Origin of the Gospel

Previously we saw that the accounts of Paul's encounter recorded by Luke in Acts 9, 22, and 26, to which Paul refers in Galatians 1:11ff., not only share the same general features as other OT theophanies, but they especially have in view Ezekiel's inaugural vision recorded in Ezekiel 1. We also saw that Ezekiel 1 has certain definite links back to God's appearance to Moses on Mount Sinai (Exodus 24). Much more remains to be said about the links between Ezekiel 1 and the Damascus road theophany, but before doing that there is one other text that we will consider in relation to Ezekiel 1. In short, in this broadcast we will see that Ezekiel 1 not only points back to Sinai but it also points to or is picked up by the prophet Daniel in chapter 7 of his prophecy. The significance of this vis-a-vis Paul's epistle to the Galatians is that it is this that Paul appeals to and which undergirds and supports his apostolic authority and puts the divine stamp of approval on the gospel that Paul preached, thus putting all who oppose the gospel in opposition to the God (= Christ) who appeared to Moses at Sinai, to Ezkekiel by the Chebar river, and to Daniel in his night visions.

Based in part on the corruption of Jerome's Vulgate translation of Genesis 3:15, which in time was altered to say, "She will crush" the head of the serpent, the apostate Papal church has taught, in the words of Pope Pius IX: “All our hope do we repose in the most Blessed Virgin – in the all fair and immaculate one who has crushed the poisonous head of the most cruel serpent and brought salvation to the world” (q.v. Ineffabilus Deus: The Immaculate Conception). This translation, and the resulting interpretation, is demonstrably false and blasphemous on many levels. In this video Tony Costa and I discuss the proper translation of Genesis 3:15 and Rome's errors regarding it.

Shabby and Shameless: Shabir Ally Caught LYING About John 1:1 and Dan Wallace

The Old Testament presents God as a Warrior, the one who battles against and overcomes His enemies and the enemies of His people to bring about their salvation and deliverance. Two of the places that this idea comes out are in reference to the first Exodus, where the Lord is identified as "a man of war" (Exodus 15:3), and the prophesied New Exodus: “The Lord will go out like a warrior, He will stir His zeal like a man of war.
