Be Thou My Vision" was translated into English from the Old Irish Hymn, "Bí Thusa 'mo Shúile," by Mary Elizabeth Byrne in 1905. The version we have here is a later versification by Eleanor Hull in 1912. The original Irish version is often attributed to Saint Dallán Forgaill in the 6th century, though is probably later. It draws on St Paul's imagery in Ephesians 6. The tune is 'Slane', an Irish folk tune in 3/4 time,first published as "With My Love on the Road" in Patrick Joyce's Old Irish Folk Music and Songs in 1909. The Divine Reset| 2 Peter 1:3-11|Online Worship Service February 27, 2022

Faith is belief in things not yet seen. How can we be full of faith in an age of data analysis, conspiracy theories and conflict? Is it still relevant to be faithful? 
 
Remember how God's people confessed their sins and repented in Nehemiah 9? Well by Nehemiah 13 they had forgotten about that, and found new ways to try and "work the system of God's laws." Nehemiah left Jerusalem for several years, and on his return finds the people disregarding God's laws. Nehemiah 13 tells of three things God's people did to disobey him. Nehemiah 13:15-22 tells of a tough stand Nehemiah makes to protect the Sabbath. It is unpopular for the merchants, but the right thing to do to honour the Lord. Nehemiah reminds the people about how difficult it can be to be faithful, and how rewarding it is. What difficulties do we have in being faithful to Christ today? What would it look like if we made a stand?

The bulk of Nehemiah 9 is a prayer of confession. The leaders 
in Jerusalem remember God's constant faithfulness to their ancestors, 
even though they strayed from him many times. In remembering God's 
presence and guidance in the past, the leaders know they can rely on 
God's faithfulness. The leaders want a fresh start and make a covenant 
with God to be faithful to him. (This is broken by Nehemiah 13, but 
that's for next week). For us today, what are the stories of God's 
faithful presence that we can remember from our own individual lives? 
How has God been faithful to our community?

We begin our summer worship series Going On A Picnic by looking at John 21:3-17. We explore the ideas of forgiveness and finding our identity in Christ. We reflect on the questions of "Who do you need to be?" and "Who does Jesus need you to be?" 
 
Our Going On A Picnic series is a joint venture including Knox Presbyterian Church in Dundas, St. John's Presbyterian Church in Grimsby, and St. Giles Presbyterian Church in St. Catherine's. Each Sunday from July 4 through September 5 one of these congregations with the help of some special guests along the way, will be providing lessons and worship services on episodes from Jesus' life where food plays a central role. Join us each week for a new message. 
Our Going On A Picnic series begins with a look at John chapter 21. 
Peter finds forgiveness and welcome. Jesus tells Peter "Feed my sheep," and Peter finds his identity in Christ as one of a shepherd.

The recent news from Kamloops B.C. from the former residential school site has gripped our nation with grief and lament. Lament is an appropriate start, but lament is not enough. We read from 2 Chronicles chapter 12 and see how the story of King Rehoboam echoes today in Canada, the western church, and our denomination. Healing and reconciliation are key elements to the church's ministry in Canada in the twenty-first century. Following Jesus leads down pathways to reconciliation and reformation. 
This week we worship with prayer, a reflection about healing and reconciliation with Indigenous communities based on 2 Chronicles 12:1-12.

What does A Tale of Two Cities tell us about Easter? How can Easter breathe new life into our communities. Our online Easter worship service answers these questions by looking at Mark 16:1-20. 
Welcome to the online Easter service from St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Grimsby, Ontario Canada. Join us as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ today. All are welcome to join in our Easter Sunday celebration. As part of our Easter service in 2021 you will experience the following: A special Easter greeting from our church; an Easter skit from our kids; a traditional Easter hymn; a reading from Mark chapter 16; an Easter sermon “A Tale of Two Easters”; a celebration of Holy Communion; and a contemporary Easter song. What does it feel like to experience hospitality Among Us? During our worship service we read from Mark chapter 9. In Mark 9:30-37 Jesus predicts his death and resurrection, deals with a power struggle among his disciples, and teaches that one must enter God’s kingdom like a child. Jesus illustrates his teaching with a child because children are trusting, innocent, vulnerable and will grow. Why do people leave church? Because they find themselves in faith communities that either promote mistrust, or stunt people from growing spiritually and experiencing true welcome. The fourth week in Lent means our series Jesus Among Us continues. Physically Jesus lived Among Us 2000 years ago. Spiritually, Christ’s Holy Spirit moves Among Us today strengthening our relationship with Jesus and deepening Christian communities. The premise of this series is loosely based on the Among Us videogame. 
We continue by reading from Mark 9:33-37. Jesus reminds his hearers that joining his kingdom is not for those seeking power or control, but for those who are humble and willing to grow and learn.

What does it feel like to experience hospitality Among Us? During our worship service we read from Mark chapter 9. In Mark 9:30-37 Jesus predicts his death and resurrection, deals with a power struggle among his disciples, and teaches that one must enter God’s kingdom like a child. Jesus illustrates his teaching with a child because children are trusting, innocent, vulnerable and will grow. Why do people leave church? Because they find themselves in faith communities that either promote mistrust, or stunt people from growing spiritually and experiencing true welcome. We continue our Lenten journey by reading Mark 7:18-19. Some teachers of the Law were trying to make Jesus look foolish by asking him question about foods that would make a person spiritually unclean. Jesus says that food cannot make a person spiritually unclean. Some rules and laws are very beneficial and truly helpful. Some rules are rooted in untruth.
