I just needed a few more seconds of music to fill up the second side of the Scripture Song cassette project I was recording back in 1991, so I picked this text and quickly put music to it. It has since been one of the texts that has stuck in my mind as much if not more than many others. I have since included this text in another song (Seal Not the Sayings - Revelation 22:10-13), but this is the one that sticks.

Now it's part of our 3 disc Scripture Song Anthology collection. In any case I haven't uploaded anything in the past few weeks so I thought I'd better put something up. The message of this song is all about endurance, otherwise known as patience, which is what we will have to have to get through the final events before Jesus comes. So, let us press on toward the mark of the prize of our high calling!

In my devotions these days I'm reading from the book of Isaiah. When I read this text again, I knew it would make a great song, so I gave it a shot, and this is the result! It's an important text that illustrates how God does not require blind obedience but asks us to reason together with Him! Why would we not want our sins to be cleansed, and our character to be made white as snow? I hope this song is a blessing to all who listen. 
 
Come now, and let us reason 
Together, saith the Lord: 
Though your sins be as scarlet, 
They shall be as white as snow; 
Though they be red like crimson, 
They shall be as wool. 
 
Wash you, make you clean; 
Put away the evil of your doings 
From before mine eyes;

Here is my latest in the series I'm calling Stories and Parables of Jesus. This is, of course, the story of how Jesus healed a man sick of the palsy and how the scribes were about to accuse Jesus of blasphemy for merely telling the man his sins were forgiven. Jesus, knowing their thoughts asked the question, "which is easier, saying his sins are forgiven or telling him to arise and walk?" So to prove He had the power to forgive his sins, He did just that! They couldn't argue with Him, because it was part of their doctrine that if someone had a disease it was the result of sin! I love it when Jesus shows unequivocally that He is the Truth! 
 
And, behold, they brought to him a man 
Sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: 
And Jesus seeing their faith 
Said unto the sick of the palsy; 
Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. 
And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, 
This man blasphemeth. 
And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, 
Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? 
For whether is easier, to say, 
Thy sins be forgiven thee; 
Or to say, Arise, and walk? 
But that ye may know that the Son of man

Here is a scripture song I put together recently because it's an important passage to remind us that the power to live a Christ-like life is in the Spirit, and not in the flesh. We fail when we put confidence in the flesh, but when we walk in the spirit, we will have power to walk as Jesus walked. 
 
 
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, 
And ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, 
And the Spirit against the flesh: 
And these are contrary the one to the other: 
So that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

I was reading this chapter a few weeks ago during my devotions, and as I read this passage, I remembered this melody and so got in touch with Jennifer to see if it was indeed her song, and it was! So I asked her to send me the old recording so I could learn it and make my own recording of it. And here it is! blessings on all who listen.

I never knew just how important gathering together with like believers was to me until this last year's pandemic! Fortunately, I did find a church group last May that wasn't afraid to worship and sing together. Praise God, none of the members to my knowledge came down with COVID during the whole lockdown, and they never stopped worshiping, even during the worst part of it, and none of us ever wore masks! The members of this church are rather health-minded, though, and so that might help to explain the lack of sickness. In any case, I am grateful to have found this group, and now this passage is even more meaningful to me.

My rendition doesn't really compare with his, but I love the song and wanted to record it anyway. Blessings to all who listen!

The Wisdom That Is From Above (James 3:17-18) - as sung by Jack Marti

This song is the result of one of my recent morning devotion readings in Colossians. It is about how although Jesus created all things, He is also the firstborn of all creation, and the firstborn from the dead! How can these things be? Well, we know that He was born in Bethlehem, and He was Mary's firstborn Son, but we also know from 1 Cor. 15:45 that Jesus was the second or last Adam. Therefore, He is firstborn in preeminence or importance, because He was born in fulfillment of the promise in Gen. 3:15 whose heal would be bruised, but who would bruise the head of the Serpent, which of course represents Satan. He is the firstborn of the dead because without His resurrection there would be no resurrection for anyone, no matter who was raised from the dead first chronologically. In short, Jesus, the second person of the Godhead, became a human being in order to redeem us! That makes Him the firstborn of creation and the firstborn from the dead! There can be no birth nor death and resurrection more important to humanity! 
 
May this song be a powerful blessing to all who hear it.

It is about how although Jesus created all things, He is also the firstborn of all creation, and the firstborn from the dead! How can these things be? Well, we know that He was born in Bethlehem, and He was Mary's firstborn Son, but we also know from 1 Cor. 15:45 that Jesus was the second or last Adam. Therefore, He is firstborn in preeminence or importance, because He was born in fulfillment of the promise in Gen. 3:15 whose heal would be bruised, but who would bruise the head of the Serpent, which of course represents Satan. He is the firstborn of the dead because without His resurrection there would be no resurrection for anyone, no matter who was raised from the dead first chronologically. In short, Jesus, the second person of the Godhead, became a human being in order to redeem us! That makes Him the firstborn of creation and the firstborn from the dead! This song was on our first scripture song project which we made in the summer of 1987. In 1991 we re-recorded it along with our other early scripture song projects. In this rendition, I am joined by my, at the time, 11 year old son, Michael. I am so glad I have this recording of his voice before it changed! Think of it, that was 29 years ago! At the time, we didn't include verse two, which in retrospect I think was a mistake, because it is important to know that it is God who spoke these commandments to Moses and wrote them with his own finger. So, today, I made a recording of verse two and inserted it at the beginning of the song. May this song be an abundant blessing to all who listen.

I actually set this parable to music several months ago, but have just now gotten around to making a video of it. I had made a multi-track sound recording which I inadvertently wrecked by accidentally recording over it, so I thought, well, I'll just record it live and add a guitar break overlay, so that's what I did. One of my guitar students, Ben Brown, helped me record it at the church I've been going to lately. The message of this parable is about judgment. God sends His angels to separate the just from the unjust. I pray all who listen will be among the just!

Here is a song I learned from my friend, Vicki Griffin, who apparently learned it from Vanita Marcussen. It's a little tricky to sing, becasue there are a lot of syllables that need to fit into the melody, but it's doable with practice! It's an important text, though, because it assures us that there is a sure word of prophecy and that we should take heed so that we may not be surprised on the day of visitation! So, let us do well and take heed! 
 
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; 
Whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, 
As unto a light that shineth in a dark place, 
Until the day dawn, 
And the day star 
Arise in your hearts: 
 
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture 
Is of any private interpretation. 
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: 
But holy men of God 
Spake as they were moved 
By the Holy Ghost
