Ġw 16, 29-33

Qari mill-Evanġelju skont San Ġwann

F’dak iż-żmien, id-dixxipli qalu lil Ġesù: [Ġw:16:29] "Ara, issa qiegħed titkellem bil-miftuħ, u ebda tixbiha ma inti tgħid. [Ġw:16:30] Issa nafu li int taf kollox, u ma għandekx bżonn li wieħed jistaqsik. Għalhekk aħna nemmnu li inti ħriġt mingħand Alla." [Ġw:16:31] Weġibhom Ġesù: "Temmnu issa? [Ġw:16:32] Ara, għad tiġi siegħa, u ġa waslet, meta tixterdu kull wieħed lejn daru, u lili tħalluni waħdi. Iżda waħdi m'iniex, għax il-Missier huwa miegħi. [Ġw:16:33] Dawn il-ħwejjeġ għedthomlkom ħalli bija jkollkom is-sliem. Fid-dinja tbatu jkollkom. Iżda agħmlu l-qalb: jiena rbaħt id-dinja!"

This Sunday we return to our studies in John where we find ourselves at the end of the main section of the upper room discourse. Those first disciples will have their worlds turned upside-down in only a few hours, so Jesus wants to encourage them. He tells them that even though they will face hardship, they can be assured that he has - and will - overcome the world. For us today in the midst of hardship, Jesus has overcome, is on the throne of the universe and is coming back one day. So we can have courage to live the Jesus way now, because the future is not up for grabs. Jesus has overcome! Shawn Reese preaches, Bob Pershe hosts and Dave Hibbert and the PBCC Choir lead worship.
